Aligner Therapy Treatment Steps - DIY (none) Case

If the patient will be treated with aligners only and you do not need assistance from our Digital Lab, select None for your case type and just create a simulation based on a diagnostic model. Use this simulation as your target, create the staged model sequence and then either:

Task Overview: DIY (none) Case

Here is an overview of the process for ordering the (none) case type.

1. Scan Dentition with Gingiva

When the patient is ready for aligner therapy, capture an unbonded therapeutic model with gingiva. Capture this scan at a patient appointment using the CEREC® Omnicam or a third party scanner that can provide surface data in .STL format, such as the iOC™ Scanner/iTero®, 3Shape TRIOS®, CS 3500, or 3M True Definition scanners.

2. Order the Diagnostic Model

Once the dentition has been scanned, you will need to upload the scan data into SureSmile and order the diagnostic model. The Digital Lab will produce the diagnostic model and send it back for your review within 2 business days.

3. Create a Treatment Simulation

This simulation represents the target, or desired treatment outcome of the aligner treatment.

4. Create Staged Models

Use SureSmile's automated staging tools to create a series of staged models that start with the diagnostic model produced in step 2 above and finish with the treatment simulation you created in step 3.

5. Order printed models or export STL files for your lab

After all of the staged models are generated for aligner therapy, order aligners, printed models or export staged models to create 3D files to send to your lab for appliance production.
