Using MACROS

SureSmile organizes the information required for a setup prescription into six categories:

We refer to these six categories by the acronym MACROS. Think of MACROS as an organizational tool to help you with your treatment planning and to convey your treatment instructions to the Digital Lab. We require all SureSmile doctors to provide treatment objectives, specifications and instructions for the desired treatment setup using the MACROS sections of the setup prescription guide. For example, when working on the Midline section, you might consider some of the following questions. Do I like the patient’s midline? If not, how much will I change it? Which teeth should I move to achieve the desired result? What mechanics should I use in conjunction with the SureSmile arch wire to move the teeth? You can record the answers to these and other questions in the MACROS. This provides the Digital Lab setup technician with the detailed instructions they need to process your plan.

The MACROS are embedded in the SureSmile interface for every product. You can choose to skip using a checklist by clicking the MACROS button at the top of the checklist and just entering your instructions directly into the MACROS. However, making selections under each of the six MACROS categories listed in the setup prescription guide is required by the Digital Lab for your setup technician to process your setup order. If all of the MACROS categories are not filled out, or if the Digital Lab has questions regarding the treatment plan, the setup order is returned to you with an associated task to provide in the product notes the information requested by the Digital Lab.

The remaining topics in this chapter of the online help detail each category of the MACROS.

Tip: Use the SureSmile preferences setting to pre-set common default values and preferences for MACROS for all patients to save time when entering specific patient instructions in the MACROS  form. See below for instructions.

Entering MACROS from the Patient Overview Page

MACROS allows you to note treatment decisions at any point in the care cycle. For example you can open MACROS from the Patient Overview to enter preliminary diagnostic and basic treatment planning information before you begin in depth treatment planning.

  1. From the Patient Overview screen, click the Prescription tab to display the MACROS below. The Midline section photos are shown by default.
  2. Click each section to expand and enter your instructions. Note the images change to match the section you've clicked in.

Entering MACROS from a checklist on the Treatment Planning Workspace

After you have approved a therapeutic model, you are ready to create and order your setup prescription. (See Create and Order a Setup Prescription for full instructions.)

  1. Click the checklist icon on the menu bar to display the setup prescription checklist.
  2. Follow the steps in the checklist. Whenever you click in a section of the MACROS, corresponding images and models display automatically on the treatment planning workspace to assist you. As you enter your instructions in each section of the MACROS, the letter corresponding to that section changes color. (See What do the MACROS/Prescription button colors mean? below.)

Directly entering MACROS on the Treatment Planning Workspace

  1. Click the Open Checklist toolbar icon.
  2. Click MACROS at the top of the list.
  3. Click each section title to expand the list and enter your instructions.

TIP: If you use the same instructions for most of your cases, you can make them your default selections so that every time you start a new prescription the MACROS fields are pre-populated with these selections. You can then change any of the fields as needed for each patient. See Prescription Preferences for instructions.
