Create One or More Post-Surgery Treatment Simulations

Create one or more post-surgical simulations to display and compare all possible surgical scenarios.

  1. Open the treatment simulation from the timeline on the patient overview page.
Result: The simulation opens. If you selected a surgery option in the therapeutic model, then when you create a treatment simulation, the Surgery tab is displayed and the simulation has the suffix (Post-Surgical) added to its name.
  2. If the Surgery tab is not visible, follow these steps in the treatment simulation:
    1. Click the Checklist icon at the top of the left side of the screen.
    2. Click the MACROS button at the top of the guide and scroll down to Surgery.
    3. Click to select appropriate Surgery On options: Upper, Lower or both, depending on your patient diagnosis and treatment plan.
Result: The case is now marked as a surgical case, and the Surgery tab appears with the other tabs in the treatment planning workspace.
    4. To generate the post-surgical treatment simulation, follow these steps:
      1. Click the Surgery tab. The surgical segments are shown automatically when you open the Surgery tab. Use the controls on the Surgery tab to indicate the number of segments, the placement of cuts, and the planned amount of surgical correction for each segment. For details about the Surgery tab controls, refer to the next topic, Creating a Post-Surgery Setup without a Treatment Simulation Attached.

Note: When both the Maxilla and Mandible arches are flagged for surgery, all global corrections must be made on the Surgery tab. The Max./Mand. Alignment controls on the Global Registration tab will be unavailable. If only one arch is marked for surgical treatment, the Max./Mand. Alignment controls for the opposite arch are active on the Global Registration tab. This enables you to use mechanics in one arch in conjunction with surgery on the other arch.

Caution: To prevent conflicting instructions, surgical corrections should not be placed in the Global Registration tab.

      2. (Optional) If you want to create an additional post-surgical treatment simulation to compare different treatment scenarios, click the New drop-down menu and select Treatment Simulation.
        Result:
If you selected a surgical option in MACROS, the simulation is automatically labeled Simulation <N+1> (Post-Surgical).

Note: This can be performed while you are currently in a Treatment Simulation. The current treatment simulation is automatically saved, and a new treatment simulation window opens.

      3. Repeat step 2 above as needed to generate additional treatment plan scenarios.

Tip: If you want to simulate a non-surgical treatment option, uncheck the Surgery option in the MACROS form.

  3. To attach your chosen post-surgical treatment simulation to a setup plan, use either of the following methods:
    • Open your chosen simulation, click the New drop-down menu and select Setup
Result: The open simulation is automatically attached to this post-surgical plan, and the plan is labeled as Plan 1 (Post-Surgical).
    • If you already created a new setup prescription, go to that plan, and click on the Order tab at the bottom of the page, and follow these steps:
      1. On the Order tab, under Attach Simulation, click the drop-down arrow to view a list of all the post-surgical simulations for the patient.
      2. Choose the simulation that you want to attach to this post-surgical plan.

Caution: If you do not select a post-surgical treatment simulation from the list, the reference simulation becomes the embedded simulation and the surgical values will not be correct.
