Six types of treatment models can be ordered:

Note: When new teeth are introduced, or existing anatomy changes, you must order a new setup before ordering wires.

Keep the following in mind when ordering treatment models:

Therapeutic model

With Brackets

Required for SureSmile wire treatment.

Model the patient’s current tooth anatomy and bracket positions. This scan is captured in vivo anytime after bonding in preparation for designing custom archwires.

Use after SureSmile or conventional wires to design finishing aligners without having to first debond the patient.

Remodel tooth anatomy that has changed; for example, changes could be due to interproximal reductions or newly erupted molars.

Without Brackets

Use for aligner starts, or for additional diagnostic information.

Provides initial 3D model linked to smile photo. Tooth crowns are modeled to the highest standards. This model can also be used for a standard case when the highest quality model is needed for diagnosis or bracket placement planning. .

Supplemental scan for therapeutic model

Use as needed in combination with an in-vivo CBCT scan when large metal fillings or restorations cause distortion or loss of data on CBCT scan.

Used to add tooth models for newly erupted teeth or to update bracket positions.

Use this scan when bracket positions have changed, or when new teeth have erupted since the last therapeutic model was ordered.

An update scan is taken intraorally to capture the affected area for any of the following:

  • Bracket rebonds
  • Newly erupted teeth
  • Change in tooth anatomy that will affect the setup prescription

Note: When new teeth are introduced, or existing anatomy changes, you must order a new setup before ordering wires.

Final model

The final model captures the finished treatment results for evaluation purposes. This model includes the patient’s final tooth positions with individual teeth to support a full dental examination using 3D diagnostic and quality grading tools.

* SureSmile-certified scanners must be used for intraoral scans of patients or for any CBCT scan. Optical scans of plaster models may be done with any optical scanner.
