When reviewing the therapeutic model, make sure the occlusion and global alignments set by the Digital Lab are accurate before approving. This is very important for multi-piece surgery cases because the surgical movements are included in the wires for the post-surgical plan.
An accurate bite is also important for one-piece surgical cases, although a minor error is permissible, since one-piece surgical movements are fixed jaw movements and fixed jaw movements are not incorporated in the wire.
If you know before reviewing the therapeutic model that a patient is a surgical candidate, you can define the case as a surgical case before the therapeutic model has been approved. When you activate the surgery options in the MACROS form for the therapeutic model, the SureSmile case is automatically flagged as surgical and labeled as such when you create treatment simulations or a setup. You can also activate the surgery options in the MACROS form in a treatment simulation or setup.
As part of your surgical planning, you can order a premium therapeutic model. With the premium model, the Digital Lab merges all of the crowns from an optical scan with the roots and bone from a CBCT scan. This premium model enables you to produce accurate splints when using SureSmile for surgical planning from CBCT data. You can order the premium model as an a la carte service for an extra fee in addition to your standard case fee. See Order a Premium Model for more information.
Note: An “optical scan” refers to data acquired with scanner technologies that capture surface anatomy; in other words, the anatomy that can be seen optically. These technologies include the OraScanner and 3rd party certified scanners (iTero and TRIOS). The scan may be intraoral (captured at a patient appointment) or of a plaster model.
