Add Patient

To add a patient to the clinic, follow these steps:

  1. From the clinic overview, click the Add Patient button.
Result: The Display changes to the New Patient page.
  2. In the next two fields, enter the patient's last name and first name.

Note:  After you enter the patient's first and last names, an 8-character Patient ID is created automatically using two letters (the first letters of the patient's last and first names) and a 6-digit number.

  3. Click in the Date of Birth box;  the date defaults to the current day, so you must select the month, year, and day from the calendar or type over the date in the format shown.
  4. Select the Gender from the drop-down menu.
  5. Select the treating doctor and assign a staff member using the Orthodontist and Staff drop-down menus.
  6. Click in the Bond Date box. The date defaults to the current day. If you know the bond date and it is not today, select the month, year, and day from the calendar or type over the date. The bond date cannot be more than 2 years in the past before today's date, or more than 4 years in the future.
  7. Use the up and down arrows in the Estimated Treatment Time box or type the number of months. The default value is the number of months indicated in your preferences.

Note: The Debond Date in the Treatment Timeline is calculated based on the Bond Date and the Estimated Treatment Time value.

  8. If this record is for demonstration purposes, click the check box next to Demo.

Note: You can also create a demo copy from an existing patient record by clicking the Demo Copy button on the Patient Overview. When you create a demo patient, SureSmile generates a unique HRID and appends “Demo” to the number. For example, for demo patient John Smith, the HRID would be 0008Demo.

Patient records classified as Demo are not processed by the SureSmile Digital Lab.

  9. Select a Site from the drop-down menu. The site indicates where you expect to have the wires shipped and where you will treat this patient.
  10. (Optional) If you are ready to select a case type for the patient do so now. See Select a SureSmile Case for more information.
  1. Click Save.

Result: The patient overview for the new patient opens.

Note: Before a new patient record is saved for the first time, SureSmile checks to see if a record already exists with the same first and last name and birth date. If a duplicate record exists, SureSmile displays a warning with the option to cancel the creation of that patient record.
