FAQs - Premium Models

What if I select full arch modeling but don’t include enough data?

The Digital Lab will reject the order and request that you correct it. Either:

What if I scan both arches but forget to select the full arch/gingiva check boxes?

Call Customer Care immediately to request that the Digital Lab reject the order so that you can correct it.

What if I scan both arches and select enough teeth to incur the premium surcharge. Will you include gingiva?

Call Customer Care immediately to request that the Digital Lab place the model on hold to give you the opportunity to indicate full arches. If you call before the Digital Lab starts work on the order, it can be corrected to include both teeth and gingiva for full arches. However, if modeling has already begun, the Digital Lab can only add teeth (not gingiva).

I previously scanned a diagnostic model. What happens to that gingiva?

What if a tooth is impacted? Will you model it when I select the full arch/gingiva option?

Yes, an impacted tooth will be modeled from the CBCT data and the gingiva (covering the tooth) will be modeled from the optical scan.

We typically order two models to capture gingiva + roots/bone. Should I switch to ordering a premium model?

To help you decide, here are the advantages of each approach.

Note: If you are ordering a diagnostic model for the purposes of creating a simulation (not just acquiring gingiva) then you may want to continue with your current routine.

I don’t need a premium model, but the patient has tooth restorations in every quadrant. How do I avoid the premium model fee?

If there are less than 7 teeth per arch or less than 11 teeth in total that contain metal restorations, selection of only those teeth to be replaced by the supplemental data will not incur a premium model fee.

When 7 or more teeth per arch or 11 or more teeth in total contain metal restorations or the restorations present are large, we recommend submitting an intraoral optical scan instead of CBCT scan data due to “noise” from the restorations distorting the adjacent teeth.

If you have already started a CBCT scan with full arch supplemental orascan data of the Upper and Lower, to avoid rescanning the patient, follow these two steps:

  1. Create another product, Diagnostic or Therapeutic, selecting OraScan as your data type. In SureScan, scan a few frames of a piece of paper into each designated area for the Upper Jaw, Lower Jaw and Bite. Submit this order to the Digital lab with notes to use the OraScan data from the supplemental scan.

  2. Continue with the original CBCT with supplemental order by submitting it to the Digital Lab with notes that the supplemental OraScan data should be transferred into the other product ordered.

Once the OraScan data has been transferred, the Digital Lab will cancel the CBCT with supplemental order, which will reimburse any extra fees incurred.

What if I capture extra teeth in my scan data. Will I be charged?

The modeling request is determined by the teeth you select in the tooth chart, not by the teeth captured in your scan data.

Should I scan the bite into the Supplemental area as well?

The bite scan is not needed for the premium service. However, you may add it to any models based on CBCT scans to improve bite registration.

What if I order a second therapeutic model? Do I pay a premium fee again?

Yes, if you scan both arches again into the Supplemental area. If you scan teeth with restorations only and do not exceed the tooth model limit, the order will be treated as an a la carte therapeutic model only.

Can I order a Premium therapeutic model without brackets?

Yes. In SureSmile, it is called a premium unbonded therapeutic model.
